Volleyball

This post is about me talking about how to spike and because 2 weeks ago I attended the volleyball tournament and if you would like to learn how to spike probably just try and learn what I listed down.

Purpose:

Understanding Air Pressure 

 

Hypothesis/Prediction (What I think will happen and why?)

 

I think that once you place the ball on top of the hairdryer, then you turn it on and make the air come out but not that fast then it should be just floating on top of the hair drier. I think the more you crank up the air pressure the higher the ball will be above the hair drier. But I think you move around with the hairdryer on and the ball will stay at the top of the hairdryer no matter where you walk around.

 

Equipment/Materials

Method

 

Firstly you will need two things which are a hairdryer and a ping pong ball and after doing that you will need to plug in the hair drier into the outlet in your house/school. After plugging it in, hold the ball just on top of the hairdryer and turn it on and the ball will start floating and make some new moves and have fun. 

 

Discussion

 

L .When the hairdryer had been turned on the ball had floated above it due to the air keeping it up. I also didn’t expect it to still be floating in the air even after we turned the air pressure up. 

 

S . I had seen the ball floating above the hairdryer and it was fun because when I cranked up the pressure I didn’t expect it to still hover over top, it was also exciting because when I was moving the hair dryer the ball was still over the hairdryer but I thought that it was going to fall off 

M: When I used the hairdrier and ping pball and we had to start on a low heat so that the ball could kind get the hang of floating in the air. Then you can start turning the heat up and try different speeds. A higher speed made the ball go higher. The change of heat settings made no difference.

 

Conclusion

L: The air kept the ball high, even at high speeds, controlling the ball.

S: As L said, I was surprised the ball kept there at the higher speed.

M: A higher speed makes the air stronger but the heat setting made no difference.

Science Experiment 

During LCS, we were learning about hypotheses and experimenting  and this one experiment was great I’ll teach you what we did :

Equipment :

Candle 

Lighter, Matches/ Stick

Plate any size

Cup 

Food Color – optional

Water

Marker – optional 

Hypothesis :

My prediction was that the water would start rising but the only thing that I couldn’t tell was why it would rise up.

Method : 

  1. First you grab the plate and place it on a flat surface, after doing that you will need to grab your lighter or match/stick.
  2. After gathering those together you will need a candle and place it on the plate ( if you only have a birthday plate just light the bottom and then place it on the plate ).
  3. Thirdly, after placing the candle on the plate gently pour some water onto your plate and make sure it’s not too high ( place the water gently because if you do it too fast it may make your birthday candle fall down ).
  4. This will be the last step for you using your lighter, match/stick, all you will need to do is just to light the top of the candle carefully before you burn your fingers or hand.
  5. Finally the last step is that you should place the cup over he candle and make sure just sit back and enjoy to see what happens ( if you would like to mark how high the water level went from the start then grab the marker and do it ! )

To my guess I got it right but I just couldn’t explain why it was rising.

What Happened :

When you place the cup over the candle you’ll start to see the fire go out because there is not that much air for the candle to operate so when it goes out the water starts to rise.
